HAND CRAFTED, GAGAKU DOUBLE-REED MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

This hichiriki, and others I have crafted like it, is crafted from dense bamboo grown and harvested in China. The bamboo has been dried through firing and through the natural drying process in a humid controlled environment. The body of this instrument was carefully shaped, wrapped in birch and rattan. The bore and rattan is finished with tinted lacquer. The hichiriki's shita (reed) has been imported from Japan after its creation.
